2018 2nd Annual Art & Photography Competition
 April 1 through June 16, 2018  



  THEME: “My Favorite Thing”

  Photograph should convey a vision of your favorite thing, animal, place or person


Work by all photographers living in the Mon Valley area (includes Belle Vernon, Bentworth, Brownsville, California, Charleroi, Frazier, Ringgold, Monessen, and Yough School Districts)

2 DIVISIONS:  * Youth 18 and younger   * Adult 19 and older

ENTRY GUIDELINES                                    Entry fee: None
Entry form: An entry form (below) must be securely attached to the back of each entry.

Entry limit: One (1) per person. Each entry must include paragraph with entry form.

Photograph: Submit an original photograph, taken by you, that conveys “a favorite thing or things”.  Include a title for the Photograph, a written description (100 words or less) to convey your vision and how it reflects a sense of your favorite thing. (“Description”), the location where you took the Photograph, and the names of any persons in the Photograph (if known). Your entry must also comply with the following requirements (the “Photography Entry Requirements”)

                                            Photography Entries:

  • Images can be in black and white or color.
  • Size:  Must be one of five sizes: 8” x 10”, 9” x 12”, 11” x 14”, 12” x 18”
  • No photographs printed on metal, glass or gallery wraps are allowed.  This is intended to prevent damage to other entries.  Traditional prints only are permitted.
  • Mounting: Prints must be matted and READY TO HANG.  This means a non-abrasive (nonmetal)hanger attached to the back that should be centered 2 inches below the top edge.  Put backing material (foam core, stiff cardboard, etc.) behind the photograph. Do not frame.
  • Photographs that include sculptures, statues, paintings, and other works of art will be accepted as long as they do not constitute copyright infringement or fraud.
  • When photographing the work of others, it must be as an object in its environment and not a full-frame close up of another person’s art.
  • The Photograph and the Description, each in its entirety, must be a single work of original material taken and written (respectively) by the contest entrant. By entering the Contest, entrant represents, acknowledges and warrants that the submitted Photograph and Description are original works created solely by the entrant and that no other party has any right, title, claim or interest in the Photograph or the Description.
  • Photo must fit the theme. Obscene, provocative, or otherwise objectionable content will not be considered, and such determination is solely at the discretion of MMVCT.

Photo will be judged on interpretation of the theme, overall WOW factor and the written description.


An expert panel of Judges will select finalists and a winner from eligible entries. First place Winners in each age category will receive a $100 award from MMVCT.  Generous community sponsors will provide additional awards. Winning entries along with four entries chosen among semi-finalists entries will have their entry published in a limited-edition series of postcards. All winning and finalist entries will be showcased on the MMVCT website and be displayed in local libraries throughout the summer. Announcement of winners will be at the opening exhibit.
